We won! Bringing play and imagination to Zottegem school

Our concept for playful learning spaces is part of the winning proposal for BS KA school Zottegem in Belgium. With a play street from indoor to outdoor, a tube slide connecting floors and organic interior, the design creates an imaginative world for kindergarten, primary and secondary school.

With 95 out of 100 points the judging panel praised the uniting qualities of the play street in their motivation: “The architecture is, from an exterior and interior perspective, a well-designed translation of innovative education: Children get motivated in a playful way by following personal paths, getting different experiences, and thereby learning is established in a new way.”

The flexible and play-fueled approach is the first of its kind in the Flemish part of Belgium. Moving away from the traditional classroom, the new physical design of Zottegem offers a differentiated learning environment that will set an example for future school development. For the winning proposal, we collaborated with Alheembouw and B2Ai. The judging panel consisted of members from GO! Onderwijs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap and school organization.
