In a preliminary project aiming to improve conditions here and now based on a workshop with inmates and staff at Vridsløselille, important improvements in the physical setting for the meeting between visiting children and parents in prison have been created. At the initiative of the Egmont Foundation and the Danish Prison and Probation Service, a catalogue of problems and solutions as well as a specific proposal for Vridsløselille State Prison has been created. The project is based on three physical ideal models for space organisation aimed at creating a family section that accommodates the needs of children throughout: An entrance area with waiting and scanning room, an outdoor play area and an open common space with family visitation flats and activities.
