Learning Spaces Need to Enable and Motivate Every Learner
Everybody learns differently – and everyone needs variation. We believe that learning spaces need to support different ways of learning and developing skills for the 21st century...

The unique pedagogy at Vittra School Telefonplan requires a design that disrupts the traditional classroom. We have solved this challenge with a learning landscape that serves as an educational tool and catalyst for learning – approved by the students themselves.
Vittra has a strong focus on innovative and digital teaching methods. Therefore, we have strategically created room for learning situations where students can work with digital-based media – whether they are sitting, lying down or standing up.
The teaching can now take place inside or on top of a massive iceberg with a cinema, platforms, and space for play. Students can get absorbed in projects in one of the flexible laboratories or be 'hands on' with materials and robotics – or do group work and hang out under a tree in the common area.
The students at Vittra School Telefonplan have given input and qualified the design, and their message was clear: no more traditional classrooms dominated by chairs and desks.
Instead, the design is built around flexibility and differentiated learning situations, where furniture, modules, and spaciousness call for play and creativity. With challenging elements and different zones, the learning landscape provides space for the individual student's needs and tasks.
Based on the design of Vittra School Telefonplan, we have developed a design guide for the new learning landscapes at Vittra schools. The design guide presents guidelines for designing the physical space as an educational tool and provides specific guidance on space needs, space planning, lighting, acoustics, standard furniture and custom designs.
Vittra School Telefonplan is part of the Swedish charter school Vittra. Rosan Bosch Studio has also designed Vittra School Södermalm and Vittra School Brotorp.
Rosan Bosch Studio uses design to empower and motivate students around the world. We create playful learning spaces and innovative schools for creative and critical thinkers.
