The recognition was presented during the university’s traditional Dies Natalis ceremony by the School of Educational Studies. Hasselt University is well known for, among other things, its focus on innovation and cross-disciplinary work.

The honorary doctorate was awarded in recognition of Rosan Bosch’s departure from the traditional typology of school architecture, characterized by a classroom-corridor structure, and instead creating open learning landscapes featuring playful and adaptive spatial elements that encourage interaction and movement.

The promoters, Professor Dr. Tom Kuppens and Dr. Arch. Ruth STEVENS, said:

"Rosan Bosch’s influence within the domain of educational architecture is groundbreaking. With this honorary doctorate, the School of Educational Studies wants to honor Rosan Bosch as a crucial bridge-builder between educational design and spatial design, because transforming learning environments into dynamic and adaptive, sustainable environments is ultimately very important to optimally support contemporary pedagogical needs.

As part of the program, Rosan Bosch facilitated a design-a-thon with Professor Dr. Tom Kuppens and Dr. Arch. Ruth Stevens, where students of education and architecture collaborated to discuss and develop concepts for a school in which architecture takes its starting point in educational ideas.
