Free Zone

Traffic directions are usually what we expect from signs. But what happens if the signs suddenly say: Kiss! Dance! Jump!? With the Free Zone installation, we are questioning how we can nudge and shape people's behavior in public spaces.

Though similar to traditional traffic signs, these signs call for untraditional actions. On the ground, a white marking indicates a ‘free zone’ where you legitimately can forget about the social standards and instead use the urban space in a new and playful way.

The zones question invisible boundaries and challenge the way we perceive the public space. Is it socially acceptable to dance and sing in the middle of the city? Could you agree to shout or do a jump with a stranger if a sign instructed you to?
